Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss has donated R50 000 to the University of Free State’s No Student Hungry (NSH) Bursary Programme.
University Vice-chancellor Professor Jonathan Jansen has thanked her for her commitment to education.
A previous UFS study revealed that 59, 35% of students at the university experience various levels of hunger each day. This gave rise to the NSH campaign.
On World Food Day, 16 October, Bloemgate Pick and Pay partnered with UFS in a collection of non-perishable food for the NSH programme. Vicky Sampson, the NSH co-ordinator, has thanked members of the community for their generous donations.
