Willemien Marais is a journalist and an academic. After working as a journalist, sub-editor and columnist in radio and print she joined the University of the Free State as a journalism lecturer.
She is currently conducting research for a PhD that focuses on the work of ‘Drum Generation’ journalist Nat Nakasa. Willemien is passionate about community journalism as she believes this often neglected field holds the key to change and development. She finds joy in the boundlessness of outer space, the groundedness of the Karoo, and slaptjips.
