Final Edition for 2015

Looking ahead to the future…

This has been an unprecedented year for higher education in South Africa. The Journalist was perfectly positioned to keep track of the tumultuous events on our campuses. 2015 will be remembered as the year when young South Africans bubbled out of their shells and staked their claims for a decolonized narrative and learning environment.

This is the final edition for the year. Our plan is to relaunch again on Wednesday 27 January 2016. In view of the drama around the language policy issue, The Journalist will continue to update you in the weeks to come when required.  The UFS Council meets on the 4th December, 2015 to decide on a language policy. In this edition, we write about how the process has unfolded on this campus. At the same time, we will keep a close watch on the flip-flops at Stellenbosch University where Vice-Chancellor,Wim De Villiers and Chairman of Council, George Steyn appear to be at loggerheads over moving away from Afrikaans. These emotion-charged dramas of our changing society will no doubt take centre-stage in 2016. The Journalist will tell the story…
