Welcome to our new editor

By Zubeida Jaffer

We are delighted to have Leila Dee Dougan as our new editor this year. She fills the big shoes of veteran journalist Sylvia Vollenhoven, our founding editor who went the extra mile in laying the foundation of the site.

We have no doubt that she will break new ground for The Journalist. Leila graduated from Rhodes University in 2010 with a Bachelor in Journalism and went on to work for Carte Blanche before completing her Master’s in Specialised Journalism at the University of Southern California. She currently teaches broadcast journalism at Rhodes University.

She was part of the founding team of The Journalist when it launched in August, 2014 and has successfully spearheaded the Arts section.

We wish Leila and her team well as they grow The Journalist further in 2016 and beyond.
