Mphutlane wa Bofelo
Mphutlane wa Bofelo is a South African poet, essayist, social critic and cultural worker and a facilitator of Worker-Education and Popular Education. Bofelo’s socio-political activism began in the 1980s when he joined the Azanian Students’ Movement until he was charged and given a one-year prison sentence in 1987. He has since become one of the most prolific writers, theorists and activists of the broader Black Consciousness Movement. Mphutlane is also a former Deputy-President and Secretary-General of the Muslim Youth Movement of South Africa and currently sits on the board of the Al-Qalaam Journalism Bursary Fund.
